How Optima Hybrid Technology Works
Outfitted with a motor that runs off a long-range battery, the 2017 Optima Plug-In Hybrid has the ability to switch between an electric and gas engine to provide greater fuel economy and more peace of mind.
Low speed driving
At low driving speeds, the Plug-In Hybrid enters EV (electric vehicle) mode. This provides you with excellent noise reduction and fuel economy.
Accelerating and climbing
The Optima Plug-In Hybrid uses both the electric and gas engines to give you some extra power when you need it most – like when you accelerate or climb hills.
Fixed speed driving
If the battery’s charge becomes low, the Optima Plug-In Hybrid will maintain its level of charge and continue to use both the electric and gas engines for optimal efficiency.
The regenerative braking system harnesses energy generated during braking to recharge the battery.
MADE FOR ALWAYS-ON PROTECTION
The Optima Hybrid Plug-in is always monitoring for potential dangers. Active safety features, like electronic stability control, vehicle stability management, electronic brake distribution, hill-start assist control and brake assist all come standard.
